🔍 Discovering a passion (and making it profitable)
The Success articles series is designed to share the nuts and bolts of how content creators leverage their communities, grow on Tacter, and use this growth to nurture their socials.
We invited Khym, a Tacter creator who started on this platform with zero social media presence, and began earning enough money for a living, thanks to creating didactic content for his favourite game, TFT. This success drove him to delve deeper into the content creation path.
👤 Who is Khym?
Khym is a young theoretical physics student from Vietnam who found in Tacter the perfect tool for blending his passions: gaming and helping others. He enjoyed strategy games like Hearthstone for 6 years before finding a new challenge with Teamfight Tactics, as well as more easygoing and relaxing games such as Genshin Impact—spoiler alert: coming into Tacter soon! He found it quite difficult to learn how to properly play certain TFT compositions and understand the mechanics behind each set.
Since he couldn’t find any platform or creator fulfilling his needs, he decided to create by himself and choose Tacter as his initial platform, having no previous experience creating online content anywhere else before.
🌱 The beginning of everything
He started posting his favourite compositions on Tacter five months ago without any pretension; his objective was simply to share his favourite games and boards.
While posting his first guides, he began to experience some traffic and it happened to become an unexpected new source of income. He went from having no online presence to having his guides consumed a total of 73,105 times during the month of May.
He went from having no online presence to having his guides consumed a total of 73,105 times during the month of March.
The primary reason for his organic meteoric growth is his high quality content, and the SEO optimization powered by Tacter. Additionally, he’s gaining a good number of fans following him on Tacter, which is the foundation of his new community that we will be empowering with our upcoming features: Posts and Notifications.
🗝️ Keys of success
Appart from SEO, which you can learn about here, one of the keys to his early success is innovation. While Composition Guides serve as the backbone of TFT educational content, Khym continually seeks new ways to assist players in understanding the intricacies of the game.
He devised a method to translate Patch Reviews, typically presented in video format, into written content, providing players with an additional means of keeping track of game updates.
Another innovative creation by Khym are his Mindmaps. As a physics student, he constantly strives to grasp the bigger picture, believing that understanding the game's entire landscape leads to better decision-making and, ultimately, more victories. One of his method to create content is to put himself in the audience’s shoes and come up with a solution to simplify complicated things.
“Solving problems is my daily joy after all”
Thanks to Tacter allowing the creation of 100% customisable content for each game, and creators being the real owners, they are free to experiment with various content types to see what resonates best with their audience, without the limitations imposed by other TFT tools or generalist platforms.
To summarize, Khym’s succes key are: Innovation and SEO.
This plan will enabled him to significantly increase his income while gaining access to all the premium features we currently offer and those we are developing, such as Twitch Integration, Product Sales, and Monthly Subscriptions.
The Grow plan is designed to enable gaming content creators like Khym to scale up and enjoy all the benefits without spending a penny out of their pockets.
💬 Interview - Creator Insights: Khym
What is your content about in one sentence?
With the base of trying to help people, I make Easy-following TFT contents for those who want a quick look and go deeper if they're willing to scroll down.
Why did you start creating content on Tacter and not on another platform?
Before using Tacter I didn’t know any similar websites and Tacter did a good job of not letting me find a replacement.
What is your content strategy?
Don’t compete with influencers, wait for their content to drop and release in the right time. Make sure it's unique for people to remember who you are.
You are maintaining a Google sheet to gather all your content. When did you start doing this? Why?
When TFT set 11 begun, I thought about how my audience would grasp my content and how to help them keep updated. As a result, not only were my viewers happy with this Google Sheet, but I also gained more attention. I only have to focus on one “fascinating topic” to compete with hot guys, and they naturally come to see my other guides.
How is your experience creating content going so far?
For now it's great, I’ve never thought I could succeed with creating content, new achievement unlocked I guess.
Do you have plans to expand to other platforms? Why?
Currently, I’m doing everything independently, only collaborating with a designer. I just want to build a small community first and then see how it goes.
What is your plan?
I’m planning to expand my content for my Vietnamese compatriots. I’m doing this as a hobby and have my other career plan, but if I succeed, who knows what next?
We heard you are getting a good amount of views on your written content. What are you doing to achieve it?
- Make a quality post. As someone who has 0 community support, if I release poor quality content, audiences won’t look back, so don’t fail in the first step.
- Choose a good title: imagine you want to find a guide, what would you type in the search box? For example, I want to find a TFT Aphelios comp and I guess people will type “set 11 Aphelios reroll”, so these words must be included in my title, then you can add keywords and fascinating icons for people to click in. For example, my title is ”[Set 11] Aphelios reroll - Master Class 👀”. In this way not only people from Tacter come to your post, but also people randomly searching on Google.
- Small advice: start with an easy guide which you are confident to cook it well, make a good title and add extra unique contents for people to know you.
- Add links to INVITE people to see other posts. You invite, not beg them to click this link. In my meta report patchly article, I give a good introduction or a brief guide and people can click to the link for more details. Sometimes there are similar TFT comps that can flex into another comp, personally I write in one post instead of dividing into two posts, you have to balance between your profit and the audience's benefit.
- Read your post over and over again and keep debating in your mind, when everything is clear, let’s post!. I apply this strategy in real life, in every single project I have done. You may want to ask your friend to know how they feel, make sure your knowledge is sufficient to handle the task.
- This is my opinion for TFT, instead of making a board with positioning. I put my units into groups of traits, so people can easily recognize champions and know which one will be kept and replaced. I did a small survey, only 10 responses but all of them feel good.
- Sharing to another platform: for TFT I usually share my posts on Reddit and Facebook. I summarize everything in a poster, share with them and say hey if you want to know more details come to see my Tacter. The key here is you want to give something to other people and they will support you if they find it helpful, don’t turn yourself into an advertiser.
- Lastly, know the time people check the website most. It peaks on Wednesday when the new patch is live, second peak is on weekends.
- Luckily I had lots of presenting experience when I was a college student, so if you are new to making content, try to do and learn from mistakes. The advice I give above and below just comes from my head when asking questions, then try to test every 2 weeks patch. I barely try to search for something on Quora/Reddit or learn from a specific source, in future guess I will take a SEO course on EDX.
Craft quality posts; with no community support, poor content won't attract audiences. Choose titles wisely, incorporating keywords for search visibility. Start with easy guides, adding unique elements. Use inviting links to connect posts. Review content thoroughly before posting.
Organize units by traits for clarity. Share content on platforms like Reddit and Facebook, providing value without being overly promotional. Know peak website traffic times for optimal posting. Learn from mistakes and continuously improve. Take initiative in learning and testing.
How does Tacter fit into your lifestyle?
Making content is a part of my life now thanks to Tacter.
So, you are earning a significant amount from Tacter. Do you have any plans to improve the numbers?
I still want to help people then see how far I can go. I’m sharing my post on CompetitiveTFT subreddit, but to promote myself, I have to contribute something to the community. Small tips: get a Challenger flair to attract viewers, I don’t have time to hit Challenger but the last set I had to climb 1k1 LP (minimum requirement in Vietnamese server), definitely the last time I hit TvT. Also I have a good relationship with many admins from Vietnamese community so who know what next.
What are your content creation goals?
Create a small community from loyal audiences first, then expand when I can do this job with someone also interested.
